Created by Hong Kong artist Chi‑yung Wong, the work responds to Ljubljana’s deep connection with its rivers, reflecting this year’s festival theme Diversity. A light sculpture that transforms with each environment, it uses movement and projection to explore the relationship between people, cities, and nature.

/////// Artistic Concept ///////

For the Svetlobna Gverila Lighting Festival, Chi‑yung approaches the theme Diversity through Ljubljana’s own history and its intimate bond with water. The city’s “water axis” — the Ljubljanica River — forms a defining urban spine that links neighbourhoods, markets, bridges, and public squares.

This flowing urban rhythm becomes the conceptual foundation of the work. The installation extends this sense of fluidity, tracing the shifting relationships between humanity, technology, and the natural world across Ljubljana’s past.

Animated projections drift across the sculptural form, creating a quiet, ever‑changing dialogue between light and water.

Meanwhile, sustainability remains central to the piece. Beyond creating visual poetry, the inward‑facing LEDs minimise light pollution, positioning the sculpture as a gentle beacon of environmentally conscious art.
