Brief
Created by Hong Kong artist Chi‑yung Wong, the work responds to Ljubljana’s deep connection with its rivers, reflecting this year’s festival theme Diversity. A light sculpture that transforms with each environment, it uses movement and projection to explore the relationship between people, cities, and nature.
Artistic Concept
For the Lighting Guerrilla Festival 2026, Chi‑yung approaches the theme Diversity through Ljubljana’s own history and its intimate bond with water. The city’s “water axis” — the Ljubljanica River — forms a defining urban spine that links neighbourhoods, markets, bridges, and public squares.
This flowing urban rhythm becomes the conceptual foundation of the work. The installation extends this sense of fluidity, tracing the shifting relationships between humanity, technology, and the natural world across Ljubljana’s past.
Animated projections drift across the sculptural form, creating a quiet, ever‑changing dialogue between light and water.
Meanwhile, sustainability remains central to the piece. Beyond creating visual poetry, the inward‑facing LEDs minimise light pollution, positioning the sculpture as a gentle beacon of environmentally conscious art.

Project Impact
Thank you to the Lighting Guerrilla Festival and to Center Rog for their generous support. This project was made possible through their trust, collaboration, and openness. We are grateful that it has become a meaningful example of cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Slovenia.
Neighbour Feedback
During my time at Center Rog, I was deeply touched by how many young people and neighbours recognised me and approached me for conversation. Many had seen me working on site daily, and long-time residents shared their personal histories with Center Rog — some having lived across the street for decades. They expressed how meaningful it was to see a large-scale artwork bringing the community together again in an open and accessible way.
Opening New Doors for Cultural Exchange
These conversations showed how inspired people were — not only by the installation, but also by the story of a Hong Kong artist presenting work in Slovenia. Many expressed a desire to see more artworks from Asia and more opportunities for collaboration with artists from our region.
As a Yale Art Fellow and educator, this experience has given me valuable insight into how a creative hub like Center Rog can bring the local community together across generations. It has also demonstrated how international artistic exchange can broaden perspectives and spark new possibilities. I plan to use this project as a case study in my future teaching across different universities to illustrate how public art can open meaningful conversations between cultures.
"It fits at park perfectly!" — Anonymous
"The tower of light truly fascinated me when i saw it for the first time, I had no idea it would be there when I went to work at Rog so I was so curious I stayed besides it until night. The shapes, the dance of movement and colors and the overall scale of the installation inspired me so much I had to see it again the next day. This work reminded me of the state of meditation, like the vessel that represents the body, and the patterns and colors that represent the thoughts that come and go, sometimes frenetically, sometimes more calmly. Also SiuYung and Brian were so kind and open to explain and invite us to the festival. I hope to see more of your art in the future!" — Milica Kravic
"First and foremost this is an incredible artwork. I was impressed how fast the team took to finish the sculpture and afterwards both from afar and close how the playful rhythm of colours create brightened the sculpture from inside to the the outside. Thank you so much for bringing this work to Ljubljana! I hope I can see it in other countries in Europa!" — Valeria Citterer
"The artwork left me with a lot of impressions, thoughts and inspiration. I so much enjoyed sitting in front if it (for almost an hour!) and really love the concept, as well as the choosen materials and the architectural design. I would be happy to see another of Chi Yung's artworks in the near future, either in europe, or on a trip to Hong Kong!" — Camila M.
