  • My lighting design practice is rooted in an ongoing reflection on how light shapes the rhythm, psychology, and perception of performance. I remain fascinated by the subtle ways a single beam can redraw spatial boundaries, activate movement, or turn stillness into a moment charged with presence.

Growing up within Hong Kong’s dense, luminous landscape taught me to recognise light not simply as illumination, but as an active force — one that sculpts bodies, reveals emotional undercurrents, and guides the audience’s attention with intention. Working in Europe, I encountered a completely different visual culture, where light and colour carry their own histories, symbols, and emotional registers. Bringing my artistic sensibilities into dialogue with these contexts has opened conversations that are both challenging and deeply generative. These exchanges have become a vital source of growth for me — as an artist, a designer, and an educator.

Working across dance, theatre, and multimedia performance, I approach light as an integral partner in the dramaturgy. It listens, adapts, and evolves with the performers, forming atmospheres that move between the physical and the imagined. In this interplay, light becomes both material and metaphor — a means of shaping experience as much as space.

In recent years, my practice has expanded beyond lighting design into leading, producing, and shaping entire projects from concept to realisation. Yet collaboration remains the core of my artistic and research approach. Through sustained dialogue with choreographers, directors, designers, and artists from diverse disciplines, I develop lighting environments that honour each project’s conceptual framework while opening space for discovery. These exchanges continually reshape my understanding of what light can do — reminding me that each collaboration is not only a contribution to the work, but also an invitation to see, think, and imagine differently.
