An Odyssey of Light is a large-scale light installation by Chi-yung Wong, emerging from his long-term exploration of the relationship between light, technology, and human emotion. The work extends his inquiry into how the fundamental properties of light—its colour, intensity, rhythm, form, direction, and movement—shape our emotional states, our capacity for mindfulness, and our moments of introspection.
In this project, technology becomes a creative language rather than a mere instrument. Through precise optical engineering, algorithmic sequencing, and spatial choreography, light is sculpted into a living presence—one that can breathe, pulse, and resonate. Instead of diminishing the poetic qualities of light, technology reveals new layers of subtlety: micro shifts in colour, imperceptible gradients, and rhythms that unfold with a quiet emotional logic.
An Odyssey of Light invites viewers to drift within a technologically mediated environment where light behaves like memory, tide, or breath. It asks how something engineered—circuits, code, and calibrated optics—can still feel intimate, fragile, and profoundly human. In this space, the boundaries between art and technology dissolve: creative coding becomes sensation, precision becomes emotion, and light—despite its digital construction—retains its timeless ability to evoke wonder.
