Flâneur & the Fervent Fire reimagines urban perception through the attentive practice of the flâneur—the stroller who reads the city by moving through it. Here, observation is framed as a deliberate act, transforming everyday light and atmosphere into a sanctuary for reflection.
The installation stages a quiet tension between innovation and legacy by deliberately juxtaposing contemporary LEDs with the fervent fire of traditional neon. This material contrast probes our collective ambivalence toward technological solutions—the pursuit of energy efficiency and progress, and the unforeseen sensory costs they entail.
Composed of layered visual elements, the work evokes elemental forms—tree, sky, bench—to create a clearing for idleness. By foregrounding the raw textures and mechanics of illumination, the piece invites visitors to slow their perception and reconnect with the surrounding environment. It asks us to consider how the very light we engineer shapes the way we think and feel.
Ultimately, the work seeks to transform the viewer into a modern flâneur, inspired to reflect on what new and old technologies mean to us. In the fervent transition between the two, we are invited to negotiate their promises and their consequences, finding a point of balance in the glow.
